who
Im a multi-tasking artist, designer, college professor, blogger and mother of one who aspires to confound and delight with images and words.
A graphic designer, business owner, branding expert, and educator, Ive worked in advertising, public relations, marketing, for the arts, nonprofits, and with many small businesses in a 20-year adventure that went from Library, PA to San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, and back to the Burgh (nat).
Brushes with fame: meeting the Dalai Lama, Richard Gere, Cindy Crawford, Karen Finley, Kevin Spacey, Diane DiPrima, Danny Devito and Dick Van Dyke. Celebs ignored: Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Keaton. Accidentally stepped on: Keri Russell (her toe in yoga).
Takes the cake: being mom to Ana.
Strangest design moment: meeting a tight deadline on Neil Diamonds 2001 tour book as the WTC went down. Later realizing it was the only year Id had a calendar with a NYC theme. On its cover were the Twin Towers.
Biggest indulgence: A stupidly expensive M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago that helped birth a prolific body of fine art, including printmaking and installation and established lasting love and friendship.
Habits Im trying to break: wearing black (yeah right) and slouching.
Pleasures: Korean television, 70s slacks, dream recall, autobiographical comics, kachina, colored glass, Asian package design, jellyfish, ping pong, my spastically insightful alter ego Janice and those rare friends who encourage and appreciate her.
Most recurring dream: beings arrive in a ship that emerges from a sparkle in the sky to repair the damage weve done to the planet.
Greatest ambition: to contribute to and live in a well-designed world.
Be who you are and who you want to be, and not just one facet of it, but as many as you care to explore.
